Our history

The name says it all: grain was burned here. And indeed, the equipment from back then is still stored in a shed in the inner courtyard – metal vats, pipes and other relics from a bygone era. This small distillery was set up by Theodor Töller, who opened his "steam and grain brandy distillery" here in 1910. Like many other distilleries, however, Töller had to stop production during the course of the Second World War. Grain should be processed into bread dough instead of schnapps mash in times of food shortages.
Until 1960, two unmarried daughters of Theodor Töller ran the bar. At that time it was a more or less ruinous low-rise building. The floors above the restaurant, like many things in Cologne, are not exactly a post-war architectural gem, but were only built in the course of the 1960s.
The "Four Ass Cheeks"
The two Juffers had been given an unflattering name behind their backs by the inveterate guests: the "Four Butt Cheeks." A photo hung up in the shop, on the other hand, shows her as a little girl dressed in white with her father in front of the inn.

In 1980 the Kornbrenner finally passed into the hands of the long-established Cologne innkeeper family Robinson. Rudi Robinson died in 1981. His daughter and his wife ran the »Korni« with an extremely likeable Rhenish noblesse.
In 2018 Stefanos Grigoriadis with Greek roots took over the Kornbrenner and still runs the Korni with full passion.

Numerous elements from the founding phase have also been preserved in the bar room, of which the raised alcove in the back room plays the most historically interesting role. In those distant times, this is where a small orchestra found its place in front of the jukebox, record player or MP3 player.
